All About Our New Colour of Film Collection

Film is a lot like jewellery in its ability to catch one's eye, bring people together, and start a conversation. Along with telling captivating stories, creating memorable characters and performances, giving people memorable lines of dialogue that live in the head rent free, and sometimes jaw dropping degrees of visual and technical mastery, our favourite movies make statements.

One of the biggest ways to make a statement since the evolution of film's capabilities is through the usage of colour. A kaleidoscopic array of shades and tones of varying brightness can come together to achieve perfect harmony, convey chaos, or simply dazzle the eyes in new and exciting ways.

One of our guiding principals has always been a willingness to explore how colour, light, and unpredictability work together to make a statement, and our brand new Colour of Film collection is meant to honour the ways that some of the most beloved movies of all time are able to speak to that concept, offering clients and fans unique, meaningful ways to connect with some of the greatest films of all time.

Using programs designed to discern individual tones and shades from within some of the greatest scenes and sequences in film history, we generate different colour palates. From there, we play around with the many different colours within a scene and source high quality materials that can match our discoveries. Those colours are rearranged into an array of highly complimentary necklaces, bracelets, pendants, and earrings that evoke the spirit of some of the most memorable movies. These pieces can be worn together as a set or individually, depending on one's preference (and undying love for the movie in question).

This week we launch the line with our homage to recent Oscar winner Everything Everywhere All At Once. Set across numerous alternate realities and capturing the chaotic stress of a woman struggling to find balance in the unravelling of her everyday life, we could think of no better inspiration for our first set of pieces.

Taking specific inspiration from the scene in which Evelyn Wang (played by Michelle Yeoh) has to begin coming to terms with her splintering reality - having a breakdown in a janitor's closet that seems to be pulling her in two directions - we have weaved together pieces featuring an array of colours present throughout the sequence. This can sometimes pose a unique challenge when it comes to sourcing materials, as sticking to natural beads and gemstones often means that there can almost never be a perfect 1:1 capturing of a particular shade, but it's amazing how close we can come through a lot of digging, research, and shopping.

Colour of Film has been a fun, revitalizing, and rewarding experience to work on, and we look forward to sharing more homages to classic cinema throughout the coming weeks and months. While we have chosen to launch with inspiration from a very contemporary movie, rest assured that our goal is to move across history with films from different eras. Soon we will be travelling to the 80s, 90s, 40s, and 50s. (Don't worry 1970s. We haven't forgotten about you.) We hope you are excited to come on this journey with us, and if there are any films you want to see us tackle in the future, let us know!
